What is the purpose of Cap Patrol?

Overview of Cap Patrol

Cap Patrol works with partnering clubs to promote fair and honest play

The primary duty of the Handicap Committee is to "enhance the enjoyment of the game of golf and to allow as many players as possible to compete or play a casual round with anyone else on a fair and equal basis".

Cap Patrol has become the standard across the industry to aid Handicap Committees in managing this often-challenging responsibility.

Through application of our proprietary technology, Cap Patrol allows the committee to monitor golf activity at the club, enforce WHS handicapping guidelines, and identify those individuals who may be manipulating the current handicap system to give themselves an unfair advantage.

3 Primary Data Sources

  1. Comprehensive Tee Time Records
  1. Complete Club Event Performance Data
  1. Detailed GHIN/WHS Scoring History

By harnessing the objective data, we provide the golf staff and committee members information to more effectively fulfill their roles and remove many delicate issues that can lead to member and golfer disenfranchisement.

Data Analysis

The Cap Patrol system uses a proprietary algorithm that takes into consideration of many factors, including:

  • A player's potential or ability in recent play and tournament rounds
  • Variance in home vs away performance
  • The disparity in casual vs competitive scores reported
  • Placement in club-sponsored tournaments/events
  • Posting accuracy and consistency

Cap Patrol is designed to use 45 data points to identify a more accurate competitive handicap. These data points are what comprise our patented Cap Score, which we assign to each golfer to determine their handicap index accuracy

Cap Patrol will identify golfers who manipulate their handicap to gain an advantage, but it more often identifies golfers whose tournament handicap is not reflective of their actual current golf potential by using more data than the GHIN/WHS system.

Communication Tools

Our Automated Communications system saves valuable time, promotes compliance with reporting of scores and insulates club professionals from the delicate conversations with members regarding index adjustments.

To accomplish this, Cap Patrol provides users the following tools

  • Reminder to Post Notifications
  • Peer Review
  • Failure to Post Penalty System
